The Daycare Calendar Hack That Saved My Sanity (and My Kid's Costume Day)
Your kid is going to be the only one without a costume on spirit day.
Not because you're a bad mom. Because that daycare calendar is a photo taped to a wall, it changes constantly, and exactly none of it lives in your phone. Pajama day, early pickup, picture day, spirit week — it's all in there somewhere, buried under last month's art projects, and you find out about it the same way I always did: standing in the drop-off line, watching every other kid walk in dressed as a superhero.
I got tired of finding out too late. So I fixed it with one photo and one prompt.
The problem with daycare calendars
It's not that the information is hard to find — it's taped right there on the wall. It's that it's only on the wall. You see it once at drop-off, in a rush, half-reading it while also handing off a lunchbox and a kid who doesn't want you to leave. Nothing about that moment is built for actually remembering what's happening three Tuesdays from now.
So this time, instead of trying to remember it, I photographed it and let AI do the remembering for me.
What I did instead
I took one photo of the calendar on my phone. Then I gave Claude this:
I'm uploading a photo of my daycare/school's monthly calendar. Pull out every event, deadline, and special day (spirit days, early pickups, holidays, picture day, etc.) with their dates. Format it so I can quickly add each one to my shared Google/Apple calendar, and flag anything that needs advance prep (like costumes or supplies).
That's it. In under a minute, I had every date pulled out, organized, and flagged for anything I'd need to prep ahead of time — which meant I could add it straight to the calendar my husband and our babysitter both actually see, instead of it living and dying on a wall only I ever look at.
No more finding out about spirit day during spirit day.

Next time you're at drop-off, snap a photo of the calendar before you leave. Then paste the prompt above into Claude (my preference) or ChatGPT along with the photo, and let it do the sorting for you. That's genuinely the whole hack. It's not clever, it's not complicated — it's just the difference between information you glance at once and information that's actually in your calendar where it'll do you some good.
